Bilawal Vows to Pursue ‘Corrupt and Incompetent’ KP Government
Bilawal vows to expose and hold accountable the ‘corrupt and incompetent’ KP government, promising strong action and political reform in the province.

In a scathing critique of the current leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has accused the provincial government of gross incompetence and corruption. During a public statement made over the weekend, Bilawal vowed that the PPP would continue to hold the KP government accountable and would not allow the people of the province to remain at the mercy of what he termed as a "failed administration."

Rising Security Concerns in KP

Bilawal’s remarks come at a time when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is once again facing a surge in terrorist activities. Areas such as Peshawar, Bannu, Parachinar, and several tribal districts have witnessed a troubling uptick in violent incidents in recent months. These developments have sparked fears of a return to the insecurity that once plagued the region during the peak of militancy in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

According to Bilawal, the KP government has been completely negligent in addressing the growing law and order crisis. He emphasized that despite repeated warnings and the visible deterioration of security, the provincial authorities have failed to formulate or implement any meaningful counterterrorism strategies.

"The government is turning a blind eye while terrorism spreads in KP like wildfire," said Bilawal. "This inaction is not just incompetence—it is a betrayal of the people’s trust."

Demand for Federal Intervention

In his speech, Bilawal called on the federal government to take immediate notice of the situation in KP. He argued that the province could not be left to the whims of a "corrupt and careless" provincial regime, and urged the Prime Minister to personally intervene.

“If the KP government is incapable of protecting its people, then the federation must step in and take responsibility,” Bilawal said, adding that national security should not be compromised due to provincial politics.

This is not the first time Bilawal has clashed with the KP government. The PPP has long accused the ruling party in KP—historically led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)—of misgovernance and misuse of public funds. However, his recent comments mark a renewed and more aggressive posture, perhaps hinting at a broader political strategy ahead of the next general elections.

A Political Power Play?

While Bilawal’s condemnation of the KP government is rooted in real issues such as governance and security, many political analysts believe his remarks are also a calculated move aimed at reviving PPP's presence in the province. Despite being one of Pakistan’s oldest political parties, PPP has struggled to gain traction in KP in recent years, with PTI dominating the political landscape since 2013.

By focusing on issues that directly affect the daily lives of the people—like terrorism, corruption, and lack of public services—Bilawal appears to be positioning the PPP as a viable alternative to the incumbent party. He reminded citizens that it was the PPP-led government that had renamed the province from NWFP (North-West Frontier Province) to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, giving it a distinct identity, and that the party had always stood with the people during times of crisis.

PPP's Future in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Despite his bold statements, it remains to be seen whether Bilawal’s words will translate into real political gains for the PPP in KP. The province has historically leaned toward right-leaning parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) and more recently PTI. The PPP will have to do more than criticize its opponents; it will need to present a credible and pragmatic vision for the future of the province.

For now, Bilawal’s aggressive stance may help build momentum, especially among younger voters who are increasingly disillusioned with traditional politics. His message of accountability, national unity, and decisive action against terrorism could resonate with a population weary of broken promises and political instability.

Conclusion

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent remarks against the KP government underscore a growing political rivalry in the region but also highlight critical issues that demand urgent attention. Whether or not the federal government chooses to act on his concerns, the fact remains that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is at a crossroads. Rising insecurity, administrative negligence, and alleged corruption threaten the province’s stability.

As Pakistan prepares for upcoming elections, the PPP leader's pointed critique may be an early signal of the tone and themes his party will adopt in its campaign—particularly in areas where it seeks to regain relevance. Whether this strategy succeeds in KP will depend not just on fiery speeches but on sustained engagement, grassroots outreach, and a compelling policy agenda.
